✨ My Advice To Anyone Applying:
My advice to my past self would be to never give up on your dreams and always remember that the third time is a charm. Rejection is not the end; it’s a sign of redirection. I learned this when I applied to the NBCUniversal internship program three times before finally being accepted.
The first time I applied, I faced rejection. Instead of feeling defeated, I channeled my energy into studying for the CompTIA cybersecurity certifications, which I passed! I reflected on the interview and used those lessons to enhance my performance in future interviews, leading to internships at Google and CrowdStrike.
After a second rejection from NBCU, I took time to reflect, which ultimately guided me to a full-time role in Privacy at Paramount.
Although my role was eliminated in a mass layoff last year, this challenge became an opportunity to apply for NBCUniversal once more. With the lessons learned from past experiences, I approached my third application with newfound confidence—and this time, I succeeded!
This journey taught me that patience and resilience are invaluable virtues. Rejection happens, but how we respond makes all the difference. If a door closes, see it as redirection. Acknowledge your feelings and reflect: what did you love, and how can you do even better? Carry these lessons forward as you pursue new opportunities. In the meantime, focus on projects and certifications that highlight your knowledge and skills.
Sometimes, we can't wait for others to give us a chance; we have to carve our own path, and eventually, the doors will open. Keep dreaming, hold your head high. Never give up because sooner or later, with perseverance, someone will hear you knocking and open the door for you.
